PM: Our customers love the Pitbull Mansion Tassie map necklaces and we are proud that they are produced with passion by a local Tasmanian business Metal Urges Fine Jewellery & Diamonds. Tell us more about the process, quality materials and teamwork involved in making them.

MU: Metal Urges use solid golds and silvers to produce the maps making them of the highest possible quality! The pieces are individually worked on to produce an extremely fine quality finish on each piece!

PM: What is special about the way you create fine jewellery? How does Metal Urges differ from mass off shore jewellery manufacture?

MU: Limited production runs allow each map to be individually and carefully produced right here in Metal Urges's Hobart Jewellery workshop! This attention to detail means that every map can be offered with the knowledge that it is of the highest quality and made from the highest quality materials!

PM: We know that the founder of Metal Urges, Chris Hood, has had an interest in jewellery from an early age and made it his aim to develop skills in this industry to the highest possible level.  Tell us more about how Metal Urges began?

MU: Metal Urges Fine Jewellery and Diamonds is the realisation of a dream for Tasmanian master jeweller Chris Hood. From an early age Chris set out with the aim develop his skills as a jeweller to the highest possible levels and to open his very own diamond jewellery business in Hobart, Tasmania.

In this world of mass produced and heavily branded Jewellery, Chris has decided to go in the opposite direction. The team of jewellers at Metal Urges Hobart Tasmania work tirelessly on every piece of diamond jewellery to hand make the very finest quality. Excellent customer service before, during and after each jewellery commission is an essential part of the Metal Urges experience.

PM: How many staff did the business have in the beginning? How many staff now?

MU: At the beginning Chris worked alone on commission based work in the current workshop location opposite Myer in Liverpool St, Hobart! Metal Urges quickly grew through word of mouth and a reputation for unparalleled quality! Today the number of artisan Jewellers and other passionate jewellery staff has grown to over eleven....making Metal Urges the largest manufacturing designer jeweller in Tasmania!

PM: I imagine the process of creating such precious unique pieces can sometimes be stressful especially under strict timeframes. What is the culture like at Metal Urges and how does the team work together?

MU: Every piece produced by Metal Urges is a team effort....every member has unique skills and gifts, though we all share a passion for fine quality jewellery and gems. The quality of the pieces produced by Metal Urges is the direct result of attention to detail and willingness to continually improve processes and work hard together.

PM: What advice do you have for someone wanting to get into designing jewellery?

MU: Whatever you do BE PASSIONATE...without passion there is nothing!

PM: How can small business in Hobart continue to support one another, and why is this necessary?

MU: I think the Tasmanian Maps we produce with Pitbull Mansion are a great example of small businesses working together. Don't be afraid to help or be threatened by another’s success…together the small businesses of Tasmania are the largest employer in the state...what a fantastic thing to lay claim to!

PM: Tell us what you love about Tassie?

MU: Where to start...Tasmania is an obvious choice for anyone who loves beauty, nature, fresh air, fresh water and clean simple living! Metal Urges is based here by choice above all other reasons...there's just no substitute for what we have here in Tassie! The whole Metal Urges team are passionate about Tasmania...there is just simply no other place we would rather be!
